Each book builds reading confidence, stamina and speed and nurtures a love for reading. Fluency 3 books have a word count of 3840 words with an expected reading rate of 80 words per minute. Hakari is starting to feel like the loneliest hamster in the world, and as more days go by in the pet shop, all he can think about is how wonderful being a pet would be. Biographical note

Tony Bradman started working life in the music press. In 1979 he joined Parents magazine where he launched their highly successful children’s book pages and, in 1985, the Best Books For Babies Award. He went freelance as a children’s author in 1987 and by 1992 was among the top 20 children’s authors borrowed from UK public libraries. Karl West is an illustrator based in Weymouth, Dorset. His studio is five minutes from the beach. He lives with his wife and his tiny work companion, a chihuahua called Chewi. Karl has been illustrating professionally for almost 10 years and has been with his agent, Astound for 8 years. His passion is in illustrating monsters, aliens, dragons and anything where he can use his imagination.
