Biographical note
I really like stories where children are empowered to make or invent things; stories about florists and carpenters and scientists and hairdressers and painters and potters. My son is a blacksmith and I love seeing metal reshaped into something amazing and interesting. Pretty much every book I write has magic or fantasy in it, so in this story I had to have a dragon too!
Big Cat for Little Wandle Fluency has been developed in collaboration with Wandle Learning Trust and Little Sutton Primary School. It consists of a range of chapter books with increasing word counts across 15 fluency levels aimed at children in Year 2 and 3. Each book builds reading confidence, stamina and speed and nurtures a love for reading.
Fluency 1 books have a word count of 2880 words with an expected reading rate of 60 words per minute.
Can Blaise the blacksmith and her dragon Flint come to the rescue? Together with carpenter Ivan and his beaver Toothy, they must find a way to combine their skills. Will they manage to fix the drawbridge in time for the big festival?
