Charlotte Voake’s loose, inky line, earth colours and few well-chosen words conjure up dinosaurs and vegetation in a book that teaches opposites, involves children in the action, shows how to triumph over bullies and celebrates the powerful protection of mothers.

As usual, Voake's illustrations are simple but sublime; with just a few strokes of her brush she creates large, fearsome creatures which defy the size of the page, and a lush, otherworldly forest in which to set the scene.
