Katie Haworth (Author)
Katie Haworth is an editor and writer originally from New Zealand, where she was a Commissioning Editor at Penguin Books. She is the author of several picture books, including Petunia Paris's Parrot and Emma Jane's Aeroplane. She now works as Publisher of Fiction and Picture Books at Oxford University Press.
Dinara Mirtalipova (Illustrator)
Dinara Mirtalipova is a self-taught illustrator born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She studied Computer Science at the Tashkent State University of Economics, but her true passion was always patterns and illustration. Raised in Soviet Uzbek culture, Dinara's work is strongly influenced by Uzbek and Russian folklore.
Dinara now works from her home studio in Sagamore Hills, Ohio in the United States. She uses a wide range of materials and tools, including lino blocks, gouache and acrylic.
When a king and queen ask the fairies of their kingdom to bless their baby daughter, one is not invited. She curses the girl, who must sleep for 100 years until woken by a prince.
The classic tale of Sleeping Beauty is retold in a magnificent pop-up aperture format. A triumph of paper engineering with wonderful folk-art inspired illustrations by Dinara Mirtalipova.
