Biographical note

Grace Hallworth was a celebrated children’s librarian and storyteller. Born in 1929 in Trinidad, Grace moved to the UK on a Churchill Fellowship following internships at Toronto and New York City public libraries. She was then appointing children’s librarian for Hertfordshire Libraries until her retirement, when she became the first chair of the Society of Storytelling. Grace published several collections of stories and rhymes set in the Caribbean, preserving and sharing the rich tradition of African folklore in the West Indies that has been passed through generations orally. Sophie Bass is a London-based illustrator of mixed British and Trinidadian heritage. She creates work inspired by music, social justice, mythology and symbolism. Sophie previously illustrated John Agard’s Windrush Child.
