Biographical note

Hawys grew up in the wilds of the Welsh countryside – a place full of ancient myths and tales. With its crumbling castles, rugged mountains and mysterious woods and forests, it felt like the perfect setting for the traditional fairy tales she loved when she was little.

However, there was another side to Hawys’ childhood in Wales – roller skating! She can’t pretend she was as good at roller skating as Ella is in this story. In fact, she probably spent more time clutching onto a wall or falling over than actually roller skating, but she still enjoyed it. It was exciting and a little scary at the same time.

Hawys rediscovered roller skating recently when her daughter went to a roller disco with some friends. That got her thinking – what if Cinderella lived in modern times? She probably wouldn’t want to go to a ball, but she would love a roller disco!
