'Its 'intensity of vision' and stylistic flair reminds me of J.A. Baker's <i>The Peregrine</i>, and its democratic, inclusive account of ecology reminds me of Nan Shepherd's <i>The Living Mountain</i>. <i>Intertidal</i> is a wondrous work of walking, seeing and thinking'
- Robert Macfarlane,
'Gentle and poetic, subtle, watchful and observant, writing very much in the tradition of Robert Macfarlane and haunted by the ghosts of Barry Lopez and J.A. Baker. This is a startlingly brilliant and moving debut'
- William Dalrymple,
'An impressive debut from an outstanding new author - a wonderfully thoughtful book'
- Peter Frankopan,
'A fine book'
- Bruce Pascoe,
'<i>Intertidal </i>is the dazzling outcome of deep observation and magical writing. It reveals the wondrous diversity of liminal ocean life, and radiates into a fervent meditation on human consciousness itself'
- Colin Thubron,
'The precision of his prose works like a hymn and a lament and a call to both attention and action'
- Pádraig Ó'Tuama, poet and author of Poetry Unbound
