'A positive feature of the monograph is its in-depth study of the kinetics of polymerization processes and their relationship with the modes and mechanisms of reactions, which is carried out at the modern level. The monograph will be of interest to specialists in the field of plasma physics and chemistry.'Dr Aleksandr L. KrivchenkoProfessor of the Department of Technology of Solid Chemical Substances at Samara State Technical University, Russia'The publication of Professor V.I. Zyn's book should be considered timely and useful. The book is written in clear language, and complicated passages are explained in detail, which makes its content accessible not only to experienced specialists, but also to beginners who are starting to study the science of plasma polymerization, and students and postgraduates specializing in physics, chemistry, materials science and nanotechnology.'Professor Igor P. ZavershinskDoctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and Head of the Department of Physics at Korolev National Research University, Russia

The countless applications of plasma polymerization, from housekeeping to nanotechnology, and the generally weak understanding of the mechanisms of this process dictate the need to study its theoretical foundations. This book comprises a detailed description of the formation of local mechanisms of polymer synthesis in the main zones of glow discharge by electrophysical collision-type processes specific to each zone. The zonal mechanisms are so different that the local polymerization rates can differ by hundreds of times. The most powerful cathode mechanism creates polymer films with signs of radiation damage to the structure: abnormal over-compaction and associated compression stresses, microcraters from ion shocks and micro-explosions. The book will be of interest to researchers, postgraduates and students in plasma chemistry and plasma technology.

Biographical note

Vladislav Zyn graduated from the Kuibyshev Pedagogical Institute's Department of Physics, Russia. He was a postgraduate at the Department of Solid State Electronics at Leningrad State University (LSU), Russia. He completed his PhD in solid state physics at LSU, and his doctorate in chemical physics at the Karpov Research Center on Physical Chemistry, Russia. He has worked as an assistant, an Associate Professor, a Full Professor, and both an official and (more often) unofficial supervisor of graduates and postgraduates at Samara State Technical University (SSTU)'s Department of Physics, Russia, where he created a successful scientific direction for the comprehensive study of glow-discharge polymerization and headed a research group, 60% of which became professors. During his time there, he taught courses on physics, nuclear energy applications, concepts of modern natural science, laser physics and technology, solid state physics, the effect of powerful energy flows on matter, and the physical foundations of microelectronics. He is the author of 120 publications, including 2 monographs and 1 textbook.
