Biographical note
GARY GOERTZ is currently Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Florida. He has previously held positions as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Kent and as a Research Associate in the Center for International Economic History at the University of Geneva. He is the author of over a dozen articles on international conflict that have appeared in journals such as International Studies Quarterly and the Journal of Conflict Resolution. PAUL F. DIEHL is currently Associate Professor of Political Science and a faculty member in the Program in Arms Control, Disarmament, and International Security at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is the editor or co-editor of Measuring the Correlates of War (1990), The Politics of International Organizations (1989), and Through the Straits of Armageddon (1987) as well as the author of over 30 articles on international conflict.<p><strong>`... this theoretical analysis of the correlation of conflict and territorial change is most timely.
