Biographical note
Maurice Garcia, MD, MAS is Clinical Professor of Urology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Dr. Garcia completed his Urology residency training at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He completed 3 clinical fellowships in: (1) Andrology/Sexual Medicine and Neurourology, (2) Feminizing genital gender affirming surgery (gGAS) in London and Brighton, UK, and (3) Masculinizing gGAS at University College London, UK. Dr. Garcia also completed a 2-year Master’s Degree in Clinical Research in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at UCSF. He served as Clinical Faculty in the Department of Urology at UCSF from 2010 to 2017.
He specializes in both masculinizing and feminizing genital reconstructive and gender affirming surgery, outcomes research, sexual medicine, surgical device design, and transgender surgery education. He founded the genital GAS program at UCSF in 2013, and in 2017, he was recruited by Cedars Sinai Medical Center and established the interdisciplinary Cedars-Sinai Transgender Surgery and Health Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He currently serves as the Program Director and Director of the Genital Gender Affirming Surgery Surgical Fellowship.
He is an active member of and educator for the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and is a co-author of WPATH’s Standards of Care Guidelines v.8.0 (2022). He is the Editor for the American Urologic Association (AUA) Transgender Surgery and Health Core Curriculum. He has served as an AUA Transgender Surgery Course Director. He is the Principal Investigator for an NIH R01 grant (5R01CA201709-06), a multi-center clinical trial. Lastly, Dr. Garcia is a member of the Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery (GURS).
