This volume aims at presenting a phonological theory of segmental
structure which is capable of providing adequate representations of
complex segments, focusing mainly on phonological place and manner. In
the first few chapters, a theory of segmental structure is presented
which makes it possible to derive a set of complex segments which
includes affricates, prenasalised stops, consonants with secondary
articulation and short diphthongs. In the final chapters, a thorough
investigation is presented of the behaviour of such segments in
phonological processes.
