Biographical note
Susanne Hartwig is Holder of the Chair of Romance Literatures and Cultures (Spanish and French Literature and Culture), Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Passau, Germany. The main issues focussed on by her research are: What is the function of fictional and aesthetically structured non-fictional texts in societies and cultures? What does text theory bring to other disciplines? Her main research fields are «Images of Disability» and «Ethics and Literature».
Can society mitigate hermeneutical injustice towards persons with learning disabilities? How do European theatres meet this challenge? How can artists with learning disabilities «have a voice»? The present volume searches for answers to these questions in theoretical approaches and in interviews with stage directors.
Based on Miranda Fricker’s concept of hermeneutical injustice, the present volume asks for how society can include people with learning disability in the process of social sense-making. Three theoretical articles explore the possibilities of theatre and video-games. Directors and artists of 19 European inclusive theatres give practical answers.
