Alan Bullard's is a Palm Sunday anthem with a difference. The music has the feel of a joyful carol, as indeed does Gerard Moultries's hymn text. It is marked 'Jubilantly rhythmic' which is certainly the character of the melody. That feeling is present throughout, even in the quieter central sections, up to and including the final cascade of 'hosannas'. The feeling of the jubilant crowds is well conveyed, and it would be an excellent processional anthem - where that is practical with organ accompaniment.
Church Music Quarterly December 03
for SATB and organ
An exuberant, processional anthem celebrating Christ's entry into Jerusalem, ideally suited for Palm Sunday. It is accessible and catchy, with a strong tune and rhythmic accompaniment but not difficult.
